We have a service event coming up this Friday, and we would love to see you there!  The event is called Family Appreciation Day, and it is organized by a non-profit called Arizonans for Children.  The purpose is to have a fun and memorable day for foster children and their parents who have been temporarily separated.  This is a very meaningful event for these families, and we want to be a part of it!

Golden Key will be holding a Book Station where the children and parents can read together, and we can read to the kids as well.  Our hope is that we will be able to give each foster child a book to take home with them so we are also holding a book drive all this week!  Volunteering at the event will earn you 1 active member point and donating 3 books will earn you 1 active member point.  It is your choice to do one or both!  Here is all the information you need…

For the event:

·         1 active member point

·         Friday, October 28th from 3 pm to 5 pm

·         It is Halloween themed so wear a costume if you have one that is appropriate to wear around young children.  If you do not have a costume, wear your navy blue Golden Key T-shirt.  If you have not received one, we will have some at the event for you.  Just in case there aren’t enough or we don’t have the right size, wear another Golden Key T-shirt, a plain black T-shirt, or an ASU T-shirt.

·         The event is in Mesa (about 10-15 minute drive), so we will be carpooling.  If you would like a ride, please reply to this email letting us know.  We will be meeting at the horse statue by the business building at 2:30 to drive over.  If you would like to drive yourself or only stay part of the time, the location is Desert Heritage Church (we are not affiliated with the church, the event is just using rental space there).  The address is 1020 North Horne.  Go through the gate and find the photographer’s station.  Tell one of the Arizonans for Children volunteer leaders that you are with Golden Key for the Book Station; he/she will direct you to the right place.

For the book drive:

·         1 active member point for every 3 books (Please donate more if you can!)

·         Monday 10/24 through Friday 10/28

·         We are collecting books for ages 1 through 14.  The majority is under 10, but we don’t want the teens to be left out!  The books don’t have to be brand new, but make sure they are in decent condition.  Think about what you would be okay with receiving.

·         You can drop them off at the Golden Key table by the MU on Wednesday 10/26 between 1:30 and 2:30.  We will be on the East side of the fountain near Einstein’s Bagels.

·         If that time frame doesn’t work for you, please reply to this email with times you are available to meet on campus.  One of the Board members will set up a time and place to pick up the books.

We really want to make a difference for these children, so please help either way you can.  It’ll be a lot of fun, and we hope to see you there!
